What Are Phobias?

Phobias are persistent, excessive and unreasonable fears, which significantly interfere with life and are beyond voluntary control. Some common phobias include fear of flying, heights, driving, leaving home, closed in spaces among others.

What are the symptoms?

A phobia is long lasting; causes intense physical and psychological reactions, and can affect your ability to function normally at work or in social settings. After panic and fear set in, they are accompanied by an increased heart rate, trembling, shortness of breath, and an overwhelming desire to get away from whatever is causing the phobia.

How can we help?

Not all phobias need treatment. However, if a phobia affects your daily life, several therapies are available that can help you overcome your fears. Our practitioners can take you through the experience of a traumatic situation in a way that distances you from feeling the normal phobic response. In many cases allowing a client to watch the phobia occur in a detached state causes the reaction to the phobia to decreases significantly.
